link to it please
It already fell to the second page, and we've moved it to Bay 12, where, you know, there are lots of Dwarf Fortress players. It's here.

I may try to get back into this game. It's so hard, though I just don't know.

DWARF FORTRESS SUCCESSION GAME.
By myself and Jacob/Lee
Would you like to know more?

I'm addicted to creating godlike creatures in arena and commanding an army of dwarves upon them. The amount of death and gore is unbelievable. Ripped off limbs, blood everywhere etc..

I love Dwarf Fortress

it's fun because instead of every game with either canned death animations, set gibs for only a few things or boring ragdolls, dwarf fortress allows (and suggests) you to piece apart every last fleshy creature lovingly crafted by Armok for both you and his enjoyment.

If anyone wants to join the BL Succession game :U.

my dorfs are doing quite well

in it's 2 year life, 50 odd migrants have arrived, 2 or 3 babies born, and one drowning death. 2 artifacts as of yet, lots of excess supplies, and beginning the Steel industry

Are 'elk birds' dangerous? I had about 8 of them in one of my empty rooms and the dwarves wouldn't go anywhere near them for stockpiling etc.
Either way, I set my 5-man military on them and took about 10 minutes to punch them to death. Basically the combat involved '[Dwarf] punches Elk Bird 1 in the head, bruising the skull'. Eventually a dwarf with a bronze warhammer (not really sure where he got that from) came and smashed them to bits with parts flying off in different directions. No dwarf injuries except a lost right hand.

Also, how far down do you have to go to reach iron/bronze, and where is bituminous coal? :(

Coal's in places, as is iron. Bronze is an alloy.

My best fort to date went out in a bloody smorgasbord of goblins. Not a single dorf left.

Coal is found in sedimentary layers, because in real life coal is formed when a bunch of things die (like an ancient forest), get packed down under the dirt and through pressure and heat undergo change. Refer to the wiki to find stones you find in sedimentary layers. Bronze is an alloy of tin and copper. I don't think elk birds are really that dangerous, the only danger lies when goblins use them as mounts and there's too many targets for a small team of dwarves to fight and they could end up being bitten. I don't know how big they are, but if they're large enough they'll probably be able to rip off a dwarf's arm or leg.

Or a hand.

Thanks for the info :)

Featherwood war hammers are as useless as you'd expect. Arena's neat.

double bubble chrimby post

I've started a Goblin Camp. Are trolls and ogres good to have around? I've embarked with a breeding pair of both, seeing as they're the only "livestock" you're able to embark with. I understand that trolls can be sheared, but are ogres just big walls of meat for pummeling invaders?
