Are you seriously comparing graphics for about a 20 year old game?
Geographically flat.
There is no elevation.

I hope you are not comparing graphics.

Compare it as an intricate maze full of secrets, traps and clever level design.
You can't ignore the years upon years of technological advancement.  Compare Quake and Wolfenstein, for example, id never put a map in for Quake because you didn't need one, while it was a necessity for wolfenstein because every corridor was virtually identical and the level design was just too much of a maze and confusing.  Maybe I'm complaining about the wrong things, it was supposed to be a slower paced stealth game after all, but don't dismiss confusing level design as great just because technology wasn't as advanced back then.

Advanced tech, circa 1985 - DOS 6.0
Advanced tech, circa 2011 - Destruction 2.0, PhysX, Windows etc etc

Yeah, because your comparing that game to MW3. Wolfenstein sucks, so does Doom and Duke Nukem. MW3 rules!

The original first person shooters that invented the first person shooting genre, you wouldn't have MW3 without them.

the irony is that modern warfare 3 has more in common with twitch shooters such as doom, quake, and serious sam than most games released today
also it owns and graphics don't matter forget the police

That doesn't mean they're the Holy Grail of gaming.
They suck compared to modern games, nostalgic or not.

what an insightful post that has plenty to do with whether old games are good or not

Just because a game is old and a building block for newer games does not mean it is ultimately better than any newer game of that genre. Despite how revolutionary they may have been, technology has gotten better and new ideas have come around.

when said new ideas end up restricting player freedom and limiting weapon choices, they're not very good ideas
take the call of duty campaigns. there is no creativity. there is no possibility for improvisation or cool situations. it's all pre-scripted to happen how it happens. there is absolutely no emergent gameplay and no freedom. the game doesn't let you go off the track at all, it guides you in a completely straight line. there are no secret areas, no exploration, no flanking, no possibility of using a different strategy. it's all just "SHOOT GUY FROM EXACTLY THIS AREA WITH EXACTLY THIS GUN, THEN RUN STRAIGHT TO NEXT AREA".
the multiplayer owns, but the campaigns are made by a dog crapping on a blank space on each disk

But everyone's comparing how MW3 is better because of graphics which is not essentially true.

True, but that isn't what we are discussing. We are discussing that MW3 is better than Wolfenstein.

But everyone's comparing how MW3 is better because of graphics which is not essentially true.

Graphics are a huge part of the game, especially in 2011. If you are going to make a game with Doom graphics, it better have the best damn gameplay ever, which it doesn't.
