then the incentive to try anything is so tiny
a player spends several minutes building up points for a T3 weapon
he finally buys it
gets shot before he gets a kill with it

Just have several different weapon types which are used differently but are balanced out so nobody has a particular advantage when they select one
it's just preference and it will work better depending on how they play
because this idea we have going now
it will never be good
