anyone who has a 590 or 6## series, what job do you have (how much per hour/week)? I was wondering how long it would take to save up enough for a beefy card, and I am going to find a job over the summer. Also, what is a good motherboard to fit the new tech that is coming out?
I have a 580 and don't have a job, do I count?

A 690 is $1200 right now, 8 hours a day 5 days a week at $10/hr (minimum wage here, dunno about where you live) would take you 3 weeks of working (before taxes)
about a month working 8 hour days every day not counting weekends and you're close to a 690 (which is an insane card - THE insane card, if you will)
if your minimum wage is over $10: less than a month
if it's under $10:
move somewhere else more than a month
look for an X79 or Z77 or Z68 motherboard. X79 doesn't yet have support for Ivy Bridge (Intel's latest processor architecture) because it's a 2011 socket however there are rumors* of an Ivy Bridge based 2011 socket chipset coming soon
*it will definitely come out, but I said rumors because I have no idea when
according to google, Q4 2012 and it will be named "Ivy Bridge-E"
if you don't understand any of that put it this way..
if you want a new Ivy Bridge processor, Z77 or Z68 - alternatively wait for Ivy Bridge-E and go with X79. if you want a Sandy Bridge processor, any of the three are okay. the processors that fit in an X79 board are generally more expensive.
don't even consider AMD if you're willing to build a performance system. they deliver great price-to-performance ratios but if you have the cash, go with Intel every time.
