I mean I bought a nice LGA1366 mobo, a Core i7-930 2.8 GHz, 6GB RAM, a 640GB HDD, a DVD drive and a GTX460 768MB with $1000.
If I had to buy my monitor, headphones, keyboard/mouse with it, I'd probably be using a lower end CPU and only 4GB RAM.

I need $1000 right loving now.

$1000 right now would buy even better probably.  I'm putting together his build assuming without keyboard/mouse/monitor/audio

^this is assuming no keyboard or mouse or audio or monitor~

exactly~

If I didn't dish so much out on the Core i7 I probably could've gotten a better GPU.  Oh well, at least my CPU won't need upgrading for a good few years.

Why would you want a previous-generation CPU?

Can someone put together a nice gaming build for less than $400? I won't need to run heavy-duty stuff like BF3, I'll mainly use it for Source games, Blockland, and some other games. It can't be huge and I don't care about noise as long as it doesn't sound like a loving jet engine. I can live with a semi-loud fan, I have noise-cancelling headphones. Monitor isn't a problem as long as the video card can output to an HDTV. It also has to have either built-in wifi support or a wifi card. Hard drive has to be at the very least 250 gigs, I'd like to have 300-500 gigs, though.

Any way to make Windows 7 stop uninstalling my sound drivers whenever I restart my computer?
It's pissing me off and making me want to go back to XP.

Because it's just as good as Sandy Bridge.  Yes yes, newer architecture higher clockrates bla bla.  The least clock rate you'll ever need for a quadcore is 2.66 GHz really.  Above 3.0 you're just doing it for bragging.

The 2500K is both cheaper and faster than the 750, there is no reason whatsoever to buy the latter one.

Really?  It didn't show up in the list as cheaper.  Weird, I sorted it by price.

Yeah, those games don't require a powerful GPU. You will notice the lag extremely on other games. You asked if it was a powerful gaming computer, and it isn't.

Would just like to say that you paid about 1.5 times the price that thing was worth. Good job.

Holy stuff you aren't realizing something

i didnt only buy it for its loving gaming ability, since that's all you seem to know.

i bought it because it's comfortable, has a very nice backlit keyboard, functions properly, made by sony & vaio which EVERYONE I KNOW uses and loves because the customer support is freaking fantastic

please just realize that gaming was just an extra little gimmick added
