Can you tell us what kind of motherboard you have? You may have to physically open the case to get at it, I personally don't know how to get its info through the software.
The side of my computer isn't opening right now but it's a prebuilt Dell Optiplex GX620 if that helps. I'll keep looking for the card type but I think there are different variants of the model.

The case looks like this.

On the front do you have the dual core model or just hyperthreaded. It should say DC or HT on the little Intel sticker.

EDIT: If you can find the service tag on your computer you can instantly bring up everything about it on the Dell website.

It says Pentium 4 HT.

If you go there and click on system configuration then stick your service tag in, they should have all of the information you need to give us.

They also have an upgrades page, but it doesn't seem to have any CPUs.

I entered it, checked the parts and found this.

Is this what you guys needed?

Couldn't find it in the list of things, chances are you would know which one it is.

Proog, I googled the full specifications of your PC and it's a 945 Express chipset.
As far as I can see on wikipedia, not only does it only support outdated dual-core CPU's it also has no support for DDR3 RAM, personally I'd suggest buying a new rig over trying to upgrade this thing

Download CPU-Z. It says the specs right there.

He could just try replacing the motherboard, it's slightly less trouble. He could find a great mobo for use in this old case and if it doesn't work out he can keep it for a new rig

Edit: just so you know proog, this motherboard was most likely outdated even before you bought it. I'm pretty sure it can only support AMD CPUs, which are total bullstuff 80% of the time, too. No matter how you spin it, you need a mobo upgrade

So uh, know any good motherboards that fit this slot?

And does the motherboard effect the graphics card slot if so is there a way I could keep it compatible with my current one since that's the newest thing in the computer. If it really is that big of a hassle than I could go full on new computer but I'd rather recycle old parts that would still work since I'm so stingy with cash.

PCI slots should be backwards compatible so you should be fine. Tell us the gpu just to be safe though

P sure my graphics card is a HD Radeon 4350 but the box seems to be misplaced.
That's what you meant by GPU right, if so sorry and I'll look for it if I'm wrong.

Dell cases are notorious for being incompatable with most non-dell motherboards, and even then his PC is most definitely using an OEM copy of windows which he would have to buy again if he upgraded the motherboard.
The case for that particular Dell also seems to be one of those really small cases, so there isn't much room for an upgrade of any sort, not to mention the stock PSU is something like 225w according to the official Dell specifications.

It'd probably end up being cheaper and easier to buy a brand new rig, it wouldn't even need to be an expensive one either, almost any modern low-mid range gaming rig could outperform what he has
