Same reason we boarded off the house on the shelf. It was encouraging people not to play the game.
It gives me an excuse to not answer people I don't want to talk to by covering my actual online status.
It gives every player a fair chance to become an admin. It also allows us to easily determine whether or not someone is fit for admin without having to put them in a 'trial' to make sure they're up for the job.
