The best generation is Hoenn, in my opinion.

Hopefully, Nintendo's planning on making a remake for the 3DS just like Heart Gold/Soul Silver's remake on the DS and Fire Red/Leaf Green's remake on GBA.

It'd save the trouble of requiring a DS or DS lite and every generation's game to get those Gen III Pokémon to Gen VI. You would have to migrate them to Diamond/Pearl, Pokétransfer them to Black/White, then Poké transport them to X and Y, which is only available starting December 27th.
Plus, don't forget the pesky Gen-V-can't-transfer-items rule.

The whole reason why Gens I and II were remade is so that you can have compatibility through all gens.

There's a theory that the hidden content in XY is the RSE remake as an additional region you can travel to. You'd probably buy it via DLC and that would explain why mega Lati@s is in the files but not released, along with a lot of other oddities fans have spotted in the game. Unlikely, but it's a neat idea.

Some items were in Gen IV that aren't in Gen V.

I have various Pokemon left over from breeding, if you want to trade something that isn't junk (something with an egg move or hidden ability preferably) for one of them let me know, I have:

- Shroomish with Quick Feet (Technician for Breloom) and Bullet Seed
- Ralts with Shadow Sneak and Destiny Bond
- Marill with Aqua Jet
- Venipede with Speed Boost
- Eevee with Anticipation
- Goomy with Gooey
- Sneasel with Pickpocket
- Cleffa with Magic Guard
- Litwick with Infiltrator
- Phantump with Harvest
- Vulpix with Drought
- Zubat with Infiltrator, Brave Bird, and Defog
