I'm curious if this means no cat non-starters this gen. Often there's a cat family at least (Meowth, Skitty, Glameow, Purrloin, Littleo), but as far as I recall we had no frog pokemon last gen because we had froaky.

I think a new 2-member cat family is pretty consistent each gen, with only gen 2 not having one.

The water starter looks too goofy, but i get that it's supposed to be like a circus seal, but that's still pretty goofy

Fire starter looks pretty mean

Grass starter looks silly with it's big ol' beak, eyes and it's bow tie made out of leafs

I'm gonna wait until their final evos are revealed, but i might go with a grass stater for once

I'm curious how the starters will evolve and become interesting, because we have seen a lot of owl/cat/seal themed pokemon before and it will be cool to see how they make them unique. Hopefully it won't just end with a big panther, a walrus, and a very big owl.

They did well last gen, given we had seen a lot of foxes and frogs. The Knight/Mage/Rogue evolution theme was a really clever and interesting design.

and a very big owl.

The final evo of the owl will have the ability 'arena trap' despite not being a ground type :cookieMonster:

is it bad I actually like the sea lion one? I like seals, they're cool, and it's nice to see another in the Pokémon universe.
On a side note, haven't you noticed these new starters are just like Pokémon of previous generations, only with different types?
We already have several seals, several cats, and several owls... so let's make those 3 animals starters!

Popplio looks derpy but i wouldn't underestimate it

There's a new pokemon in the Coro Coro trailer at around 11 sec.

they made a feline counterpart for houndoom huh

My bets on the owl being the starter that just plows through everything.
