You can toggle them off, can't you? Or did he just set it to go down automatically and he didn't have his cursor over it.

You can push down the task bar the same way as you pull it up. All you really need it for is to close windows (Alt F4) and the start menu (windows logo).

Switch windows, too. (Alt tab)  Alt F4 doesn't always work.

No duh, It closes windows, not switches em. Alt tab always works in WINDOWS. Note that not everything is in window form.
