Author Topic: "Remove "In God we trust" from legal tender" Petition on Whitehouse.gov  (Read 27132 times)

you're taking one bit out of the entire thing when there are bits around it that alter the meaning of this

mainly the word "law" preceding the word "respecting"

there is no law that establishes a religion in place due to "In God We Trust" being on our currency.

you can't just take that one bit out and try to say that "In God We Trust" is 'respecting a religion and therefore is unconstitutional' because it makes no sense

i don't know how to explain it any better than that, i'm not even going to try to explain it any better.
They created a law that said the national motto was In God We Trust and it respected the establishment of Christianity.

loving over the top athiests....

ye who says yes to this i will personally burn and then stuff down your neck...
How loving.
remove one nation under god from the pledge then!!!!!
Why not? It also hints towards monotheism, offending any polytheistic religion.
Respecting an establishment religion rather obviously implied placing favor on one religion over another

how is it so difficult for you to understand this?
Exactly. Even if it said "in god(s) we trust" that is still a bit offensive to the nonreligious people. Overall it is best to be a neutral party when it comes to religion and government.

remove one nation under god from the pledge then!!!!!
it's actually pretty acceptable to sort of just not say that when reciting the pledge

but you can't really just remove a motto from a dollar

Are you handicapped all you do is stop printing it on dollars

Using the name of a Christian god in America's motto is clearly a show of favoritism to the Christian religion to have their god be in the American motto. I don't see mohammed on there, or Zeus, or any other god. It is clearly respecting a religion by putting it in our own motto. Like for example, if you made a motto for yourself, would you want it to be something badass that people will respect you for, or something handicapped? Evidently pretty much everyone would expect a badass motto, and putting a Christian god on it shows that America is more centered on it

And plus, wasnt "In God We Trust" on currency before Separation of Church and State was even official

oh no we do not want to offend people now do we

i like e pluribus unum, it's a much better motto for america, the place where you're free to believe in any religion you want, god or not

I agree with this. Ill sign it  too.

i promised myself i wouldn't say any more but i need to say this to clarify

you completely missed the point of what i said
there is no law against respecting a religion nor is there anything in the Constitution against it
if you have any other objections or concerns please direct them to the nearest person who is willing to listen

Are you handicapped all you do is stop printing it on dollars
i meant an already printed dollar

unless like you vandalized it with a sharpie

yes there is

read the first amendment, it stated that congress shall pass no law respecting a establishment of religion, and the in God we trust thing is respecting god.

lol so far in this topic. most the people against it claim the founding fathers wanted it this way, or that we officially seem to belong in a christian state.

lol idiots

Im pretty sure Muhammed wasnt a god, just a prophet of God.

And again, "God" could referee to 4 religions
Thats why Judaism, Christians, and Islam are called people of the book. Because the  Qu'ran contains the Bible and the Bible contains the Torah
