Heh, this topic is getting even more off-topic than it was when it was started in the off-topic board.
Back to the point, that dog is in a lot of misery these days, I think. I know a lot of dogs, and all of them absolutely HATE it when they're forced to do such things to contribute to human vanity, anthropomorphic obsessions, etc. etc.
I'm not heartless. Quite the opposite. The thing is, at the point this poor thing has reached, it would probably be a mercy-kill. Kinda like the horse that breaks it's leg and has to be killed because it's in so much pain and will be for the rest of it's natural lifespan.
