I played LoL for about half a year before i got into the dota beta, Dota2 just feels so much more alive to me, The lol world feels like it's flat in comparison, Cliffs actually feel like cliffs instead, And i love the character valve have put into the heroes, As much as i liked Morganna (or however it was spelt) and Karma they just don't have the personality of dota. Sproink.

I also like just how big and boomy the spells in dota are, LoL ones are always pretty weak and "meh". And i like not having to buy heroes. And the larger selection of items that are activate-able.

And atlas you'll want to try nyx assassin, He's a pretty awesome ganker.
Tails knows what's up.

I like LoL over DotA because League feels more responsive, probably because we don't have turning times, and slightly faster average ranged autoattack travel speed.
And the shop is so much easier in LoL to find items for what you need.

I just played a game as Shaco and lost (19/11/13) because bot lane threw so hard (10 deaths in first 10 mins)
was a longish game (40 mins) and I had BD'd so hard, the pressure must have been so high for that team.

Jumping under a full turret, pushing R, W, RMB and watching it drop is the best feeling. I got all the way to the second nexus turret before the game ended :c

Well I can agree the LoL cliffs aren't really cliffs but theres some pretty cool spells out there, not to mention S3 has a lot more activate-able items, oh well I guess its just preference.

Also were u playing when riven came out?
She's probably one of my favorite champions

I stopped shortly after nautilus.

Dota 2 has 2 types of store layout and search bar, You can also put items in a little box on the side so you can just right click the picture to buy them at anytime.

There's a pretty awesome Comparison here too, Which is pretty much correct.

Also i think the brush lol has is pretty stupid, What's the point of trying to hide in an area that says "Hey people hide here"?

Oh, I know. I've played enough DotA2 to know what I'm up against in these. I really like the game, and if they did a couple things which I mentioned in my last post I think I would play it more than LoL.

I hate the store in DotA, I know how to work it and find the items I want but it sucks compared to "I want some AD, and I want some health...." *Checks health and AD box* ahh, these items give me both of those stats...
But to each his own I guess.

Also: DoTA doesn't have a real meta yet because it's only year one, but one day a meta will likely be formed.
And the meta isn't even important in League really. I won a game going 5 man gank bot for 1 min then 3 mid and 1 bot one top. *shrugs*

Erm, Dota2 is the same game as Dota1 so it had dota1's meta. Dota2 has also been public longer then a year.

So what is the meta in DoTA?

http://dotametrics.wordpress.com/2013/01/21/the-dota-2-metagame/
So there's not really a meta it's just a do anything you want kind of deal where they name everything.

3 mid? lets call it a 3 mid tri lane

wanna double jungle? lets call that just what it is.

If I'm not mistaken a meta is the average team comp in ASSfriendS style games - meaning if the game is normally played 1 bot, 1 top, 3 mid, no jungle that would be the meta.

You can't have more than one meta. You can have a kind of a majority of games are played with one of these two.
40% makes majority. 40+40=80 = still room for 20%

That was worded poorly but whatever.

Meta means metagaming.

This means you already know the optimal laning setup, if there is one.

Metagame for Dota 2 is more focused around the hero flavor of the month rather than the optimal lane setup since you can run so many possible lane combinations it's mind boggling trying to pin down everything to a boring cookie cutter layout.

Right now Batrider, Undying, Nyx, Naix, Kotl, Lone Druid and Dark Seer are the big things in the scene. Some of them aren't even getting through the ban phases anymore due to how dominant they are in the game.

I'm no League player but from what I'm guessing champions picked in ranked games don't change a whole lot unless there are some big buffs/nerfs being thrown around. On the other hand with the unorthodox lane possibilities people are always finding new ways to mix and match wombo combos for whatever they get to work against the current best. The best example for this was when Anti-Mage was nearly unstoppable until people started picking the most unlikely of competitive heroes like Riki, the guy most infamous for stomping unbearably hard in the lowest brackets. Either that or pick someone who carries harder and hope to ride it out like Faceless Void. Where you lane them doesn't matter, but how you make the most of your team composition does. Metagame should really be labeling something more dynamic than where people are on the map since those only last for so long until everyone is moving around constantly, while people are going to be drafting the same type of lineups more frequently for certain time periods.

There's banning in League too, so a lot of the strong champs get banned. Generally anything with very heavy AoE crowd control.
Any champion who's ever went over 60% win rate in ranked games got nerfed. Too bad any  that go under 40% don't get buffed (Karma).

Too bad forget Karma.

also I assume they're small warrior children. All raised to be the same - is that Sparta that they're referencing? First thing that comes to mind is Sparta. idfk

Yeah I know they have bans, and nerfs are pretty standard, but has anyone just pulled a random unexpected hero out of a hat? Best example of this recently is when N0tail played Meepo and wiped the floor with everyone, despite him having one of the lowest win rates while being the hardest hero in the game to play.

Does anyone on LoL dare to do this or would the admins crack down on having fun picks faster than that randoming in ranked fiasco? Legitimately interested in whether the top picked heroes have changed significantly over time or if it hovers around a pretty stable pool for anyone who follows the comp. scene for League.

Yes, just like 2 days ago in a pro tourny someone picked up Volibear and wrecked everyone, Volibear is *never* banned.
Same with Olaf in the most recent *bigtime* tourny, Voyboy used Olaf and pretty much 1v5ed the entire game.
