Author Topic: Shadows and Shaders vs Terrains and Interiors????  (Read 3731 times)

the only gametype that even makes use of huge terrains is dogfight servers. but even then its all for a scenic view and has nothing to do with gameplay.

at least those lazy dogfight servers might be forced to actually build something for once. landscaping isnt hard

maybe players will actually learn to build from this.

exactly lol.
no one builds on blockland anymore. and its solely maps to blame.

pre-built builds will be released, and people will use those. see: afgan, ACM city.

ok?

my point remains

~primarily~ then, if you're going to be so touchy about it

people don't build because they don't like to spend time and would rather just quickly play. with maps being removed, those same people will just download builds to play on.

I agree completely. The level of stupidity coming from the shader fanboys in this topic amazes me. People saying "it will allow for more updates", and "people will build better" clearly have no idea what they are talking about.

This update is all about making the game look better for potential buyers. It has no thought into actual gameplay whatsoever. It will not make people build better, it will only reduce this game to freebuilds and RP's.

I believe terrains and interiors are the reason why we don't see many good builds today. People are always relying on them to do the creating for them, making their servers look more "fun" while still being lazy asses.

It's depressing how both sides just yell "ignorant and uninformed" at each other. Hopefully the people who constantly complain and berate about shadows and shaders will refuse to update, and stay in v20 - I don't want to have to join a server and listen to them complain about how they liked "old Blockland" better.

I can't wait for the shader update. At that point, no one can rely on terrain/interiors to do the work for them.

One less excuse to be lazy.

people won't build better, but many good builders might be encouraged to build more. i'm sure there will be more than RPs and freebuilds.

i need this lol. once i'm forced to use bricks for my mods then i have to use em

ban button

Are you saying I'm going to be banned for that post; or that I should just ban people on my server the complain? Both seem unreasonable.

Yeah, people clearly have no idea what they're talking about when kompressor and Badspot themselves said that Terrains and Interiors complicate the code of Blockland tremendously. It may make better updates in the future, but it will also make faster updates as they don't have obfuscated code to deal with.

Currently we're using rendering extensions from 2003. It's 2012. I'd say it's time for an upgrade. Whist I can agree that "Gameplay > Graphics," you'd just have to strive harder to actually make people enjoy your build or server. Gameplay wouldn't change a bit. It may be a bit tougher for new players or younger players who wouldn't understand how to make a giant badass house, or build an enormous terrain build, but then your imagination isn't limited to the predefined walls of the Bedroom (and the edges of Slate,) and you can create your hearts desire, which I find more fun than it being built for me.
It will not make people build better, it will only reduce this game to freebuilds and RP's.
I concur with the fact it won't make people build better, only harder; but it will most certainly not reduce the game to just freebuild or roleplaying servers, the host (or builder) would just have to make their own terrain or interior our of bricks. A dogfight server would be the same, only with terrain made with bricks. Your argument on this point is invalid.

No matter how many points you bring up Koopa, they're just going to say you're ignorant, blindly defending the update or even that you still have no idea what you are talking about.
