the main reason that minecraft got popular is let's plays. there is literally no other reason the game is popular. the fact that surviving and exploring in a sandbox environment makes for good let's play material is the only reason minecraft got popular. the reason blockland isn't as popular as it should be is because A: we have a community that is not tolerant of little douchebags and B: it wasn't marketed nearly enough. The banner ads did get people, me being one of them, but other than that there is really no word getting out that this game actually exists. what i think would get a lot more people buying the game was if more people started making a lot of blockland youtube videos.

Hardly any of you guys actually know why it became popular. The reason I know was because I joined like 2 months before it really exploded. What happened was someone made a minecraft themed map on team fortress 2 and the TF2 devs put it on teamfortress.com.

Then what happened was multiple news outlets about gaming like kotaku and rock paper shotgun started picking up on Minecraft and the rest was history.

Comparing Blockland and Minecraft is stupid. The only thing that ties them together is "blocks". Minecraft is a game about surviving and exploring, Blockland is a game based on fighting, building, and the community.

has stuff for graphics, which LAGS your computer, only has redstone for technical stuff, had millions of LPS
and yet the only good thing is its survival mode, and an AMAZING terrain generator
it simply did better because people threw their money at any indie game that is abit fun, and they get a placebo affect so they go like:
"WHOA, this is so cool" because they THINK its that good. also, remember, blockland was made when indie games weren't the hottest thing
and roblox had BLOCKED its chance for success because everyone liked it better because it was "free", and i doubt blockland is going to get a sudden BOOM of players and popularity at this rate

my opinion< your opinion cos I'm a newcigarette BUT I say Minecraft is better than blockland. I mean before you've played it for less than a day and it isn't updated after 1.7.3 and you've played Blockland for years, otherwise Blockland is better.
