I like how on CO's page it specifically states DayZ requires Arma II CO.

No, but you'd be missing out on tons of fun if you didn't actually play Arma 2 for Arma 2.

Arma 2 does seem awesome, I played a bit of the free version on the RPS server and i flew a helicopter and crashed it and drived a car and cc blew it up and i captured some place and got kicked for killing cc for blowing up the car.

Controls are crazy though.

Carrying too much ammo. You really only need like 40~ rounds for each gun you are carrying. It's always good to have extra so you can throw it into a stash, but ammo is pretty heavy so dont carry anything more than 100 rounds of ammunition.
