cats have stuck by acquaintances that have passed away out of sadness. humans do the same when people pass away, they stick by their grave. cats can obviously feel sadness and happiness, also anger. it's just not noticed often because the domesticated ones we have aren't exactly around other cats often.

Yes and there's scientific documents proving those videos are just displaying instincts that you are mistaking as human behavior because you're an idiot. If you want an actual reason to not hurt animals, Elephants form families, raise children, cry, and do other things similar to human experiences. Killing elephants for no reason is plain wrong because you're depriving them of an entire life.

The subject of animal "respect" is entirely based upon each individual human.

I have a high amount of respect for animals. Somebody like Seventh has very little.

Everyone is different. However in a general society one would hope that animal cruelty is at a minimum and that those who cause suffering to animals would be prosecuted.

I'm not sure what it is like in the US but if this were to happen in the UK, it would be on news websites and the RSPCA informed.
