I'm glad I got ear buds before keys doubled in price.

The problem is the prices are being inflated artificially.
I know I said I wouldn't reply to this stuff but I'm sorry but that ain't true. :v
nobody is buying new keys due to the market and that forces key prices to go up
since there are no new keys in the flow (infact the amount of keys in the flow is infact lowering since a lot of people buy keys and unbox)

ok ill stop now :(

Yes it is. I posted a huge album with proof. Your proof is "that ain't true".

I'm not sure you know what you're talking about. People are buying and trading keys, that is the whole basis for the price rise. The completed trades with higher prices are what is being used as proof to raise them even further.

i don't think you understand what i mean
nobody is buying new keys because everyone buys them from the market
and since people are unboxing that means there is less keys in the market every day
this means the keys are rarer as there is less of them
since they are rarer - that means they should logically cost more and more each day as they is less and less of them
that's not talking about anything to do with backpack.tf

now onto the backpack.tf bit
backpack.tf is declining the lower the key prices votes (and vice versa) for the WRONG reasons and i totally agree with you on that. they shouldn't be doing it for why they are doing it. but in the album you posted all it has is to do with reasoning and not the actual inflation of keys and why it would or wouldn't happen
technically key prices should not be going down. if they just accepted those sort of votes what's to stop everyone saying everything is worth a scrap.
now don't get me wrong - i'd love key prices to go down as much as the next guy - but for it to logically happen valve needs to step in, be it with a key sale or some other way

anyway, i'm off to bed

I'm sure I'm missing something here but - keys on the MannCo store are $2.50, and keys on backpack.tf are $1.73. Why are people buying from MannCo then?

Because the Steam Community market lets you sell keys for cheaper than the store.

They don't, what Freeze said has some truth but that was obvious, the price should continuously rise, honestly I thought the reason keys weren't added originally was to prevent the loss of having people buy them from the store, but that didn't happen and they added them. I think keys should've never been added to the market as they act as a currency.

Keys may be slightly rarer, but not double the price in 6 months kind of rare.

The artificial inflation is also contributing to the rarity, since people are hoarding them to try and make a fortune off of them. These people with 600+ keys (the people masterminding this whole thing) will make something like 60 refined off of a single scrap increase in price.

You're right, key prices should not be on the decline, they should be slowly rising with the natural increase over time, as shown in the graph *before* the forced spike. It was a steady progression prior to that spike. I don't know how anyone can look at that graph and think that is natural.

The people that actually care about this game are fighting to return keys to what they actually are. Keys are *not* worth 5 refined. Traders are just following what backpack.tf tells them they're worth.
