Author Topic: Is anyone here homeschooled?  (Read 7859 times)

I only approve of homeschooling for secondary education (high school). If you are able to maintain healthy social interaction with friends you have, and you are able to self-manage well.

Homeschooling may have many perks, but when it comes to the important things like consistent study and self-improvement, you need to put the effort in. Is you do a correspondence-based course, there won't be anyone to hold your hand. In many ways the actual studying part of homeschooling can be harder than that in public schooling.

I've been doing correspondence schooling to finish my secondary education after having done a few years in a public school. Its not the same as homeschooling but it has a similar feel.

If you've always been homeschooled, you won't know what public schools are like. :/
Never said "always" now did I?

This is correct, which is why a lot of homeschooling communities have study meetings together because study is always easier with a partner. Though I never had a fondness or need for them, they weren't very common either.

i sort of know what public schools are like, or at least i know what people on the internet say public schools are like and they sound terrible

Who?
frontrox?
maybe I'm confused about it. but I do know he lives in arizona
There are many different forms of homeschooling. Whether or not it is limited to the teacher depends on what curriculum you use. So in which case I could finish a grade faster than you could take a stuff in the toilet and actually learn something.
oh, well, idk anything about homeschool. I figured it was a state-run thing, for the most part

You heavily implied that you've been at public schools for a very limited amount of time.

They're not as bad as people like to say, in my experience. There are downright dreadful times, but over all it's not too bad.

I like public school
can't be in marching band from home :I

Same could be said for homeschooling. You can't trust Everything on the internet.

You have to file a grade report to the state or something along those lines, so you are not completely disconnected.

Spent two years in a Public school during my Highschool curriculum.

It all depends what school you go to.

Ive been to one school where the teachers are great, bathrooms are clean, and I actually learned.

But then ive been to one school where we learned about 10% of what we were supposed to.

for me it's just my mom has me do stuff in workbooks every now and again
there's no real set schedule, it changes a lot
so some weeks i'll be doing stuff every day and some weeks i won't do much of anything

Homeschooling causes you to not have friends and lowers your self-esteem.
Public school helps you make friends and all that.

The real lesson here is that Public and Homeschooling locations and methods differ under many different circumstances. So generalizing from both sides hold no truth basis.

Id say public school lowers your self esteem, which is essential to being sucessful in life. If you were homeschooled your whole life versus say, only being homeschooled for high school, then you probably wont have had much social interaction and you wont be ready for how bad life and people can be.

Also as a sidenote, why the hell are you putting the future of your education in the hands of an online forum poll?

Assuming that the person in question has little to no access to social interaction in the first place.

I can't really agree with this at all
my uncle was homeschooled all his life and he has plenty
granted, he did go to church
