We just need someone who's good at doing lets plays on the forum and make him do a famous game. After he gets popular we could get him to LP blockland
Gaining popularity from doing YouTube LP's isn't an overnight thing though. Not that the idea isn't good, but it's not exactly quick or as easy to accomplish. To make a very good Lets Play series of games requires a fair amount of dedication to regularly putting out videos, and putting your own money in, as well as the fact that most really famous Let's Players are YouTube partners, which means you do require said dedication. And then there's the question of whether he you have the ability to make good videos.
And also bear in mind that the ability to do a good commentary/Let's Play for games like Battlefield, or Assassin's Creed or even Minecraft, is very different to making a good video for Blockland. Most other games all have a very set out story/gameplay for you to do. Sure, Minecraft might be very sandboxy, but you start off in a (kinda) complex randomised pre-created world. The hardwork of actually providing a fun environment is already done for you.
In Blockland, you have to build everything from the ground up, really. Sure, there are other people who have servers with things already made, but your ability to film this still depends on luck of finding a good server on the day of filming. Plus, that's not all that Blockland has to offer.
Making a Let's Play of server-hopping isn't as explanatory of what Blockland is if it doesn't compare your own ability to create stuff.
And for that, you'll likely want someone who is good at making builds, or making a fun server, or at the very least being entertaining while doing/trying to do so.
I think a good filming concept for Blockland would be to get a good detailed builders, or a good teams of detailed builders, and to get them to pump out a number of builds, but film it and do timelapses.
Those sort of videos are one side of showing off what brilliant builds you can make in this game and the creativity you're capable of expressing.
Overall, I don't mean to sound negative about the concept of making videos, whether they be Let's Plays, Server-Hopping Montages, Timelapses, Theatrical or Comedy films or what not.
I would promote people doing these anyway, since they're great for the community outside of Greenlight, as well as good for advertising the game (for Greenlight and in general) and they're also good fun. (I'd love to see lots more videos in the Gallery Forum)
To me however, it just seems that putting all our eggs into this one basket in the hope for it promoting us for Greenlight would be a very slow and arduous progress which could have no effect, or even a very negative one.
But I do think that posting topics on other Forums is a good idea.
Don't be spammy about it.
Take the same amount of care and dedication that you take to share games on this Forum.
If you're going to make a topic on another forum make sure you're the sort of person to keep going back to it, and to compile great things to advertise us by.
At the same time, those who hear of places discussing Blockland, I suggest you don't go too overboard on talking about Blockland. I've seen a number of cases over the years where people have gone onto another Forum and seemingly just flooded it with Blockland talk. That's not bad, but it can seem very overwhelming. And sometimes this can be as awkward to our presentation as it is when people come along and say silly things like comparing us to Minecraft or Roblox.
But I think all we need to do really is continue to make a good impression in a number of other communities.
Does anyone here host servers for other games? Why not advertise Blockland through it.
Have a YouTube account with decent (or even not-decent) viewcounts? Advertise Blockland through it.
Have an upstanding account on another forum (not one you've made for this sake only)? Advertise Blockland through it.
Have a school computer/games club, lots of friends who play computer games? Tell them about Blockland.
Have a Twitter of Facebook account? Don't be afraid to share it on there.
And hey #39 and a gradual increase. We've not gone down and we're slowly going up. We've still got time to move further, and little pushes will help us with what we need. I think we should all be very very proud of what we have accomplished so far.
