May as well take off "RTB", because it's halted.
ephi taking a break doesn't mean the project has been permanently stopped

take your butthurt elsewhere

Have a basic set of catergories which the player can choose to set it when submitting. Have one of those catergories be "other". If a large amoun of builds go into other with a general theme make that theme a catergory and move the builds there.

I like this idea, it's essentially moving back to the tagging system but browsing is then done based around the most popular "base" tags I guess?

There's a positive and productive discussion going on in this thread. If you're going to try and disrupt it with petty things I'm going to remove your posts.

I've not really thought too hard about whether it'd be clientside or serverside. I see a few benefits and drawbacks to both. The idea of having to send the build to the server to load sounds kind of lame but at the same time so does the client making the server have to download the build from RTB - though the latter would be quicker. Ideally I'd like to load it in such a way that doesn't rely on the server having a particular add-on, though.

But this takes the server completely out of the equation if you make it load in a macro/buildbot method.  As long as the client can build, it can load up stuff.  It's especially ideal for smaller props.

But if you think you can convince badspot to allow the client to make the server download stuff and then load it into the server, then I'm sure it would be a much better solution than buildbot.

Uh, what are you talking about?

RTB is an add-on

RTB is an add-on

Handled completely client sided or with default server add ons

Sorry, was definitely unclear there. I meant I'd like to load it in such a way that it doesn't hinge on the server having add-ons like the duplicator or duplorcator installed, but would still need RTB installed.

I'm not mega keen on using a buildbot method because it'd mean packaging that with RTB and maintaining it which wouldn't be something I'd be thrilled about. I also don't like the idea of the client being able to arbitrarily load anything in the same way buildbot does. I'd much rather the client request the server to give them a temp brick representing a particular prop which the server gets from the RTB site.

But what if the server doesn't have all the brick add-ons?
Also what about event sets? Some people have problems with them and would love to download stuff like that

Mentioned on the first page - I said a lot of things so I can't blame you guys for missing it :)
Who are you and what have you done with Ephi?

Oh never mind; all is normal.

I suspect if some bricks are missing you just tag the file as unusable on the current server.

That's definitely outside the scope of this, but I'd say they'd still be able to submit/download evented props which goes some way to addressing that.

Essentially yeah - that could also be checked either from the client or server too.

So people will download a red 1x1 brick with the needed event set or what

I think you shouldn't be able to upload a save if the server doesn't have the bricks.

Are you talking about downloading events now? No Off-topic. Make your own thread.

I'm saying people could submit evented props such as a computer or some kind of complex door system or a random number generator or anything like that.

There should be a "featured" build list every week chosen by moderators. It could work like the new start game menu where it has the preview, the name, description, and so on, except the builds will rotate every 3-5 seconds like steam.
This way builds can have a week to shine and get their download count up.

Sounds great.

But what will the featured builds be chosen for? It is just the moderators decision?

How to make this balanced?
