Current Map:

In order to pass through this treacherous valley, you must first cross the Heldigan Fields.

Few are brave enough to pass through its tall grass, for they say that wild creatures live there. Creatures whom you may not wish to deal with.

The way around this field is three times the distance.

You have a Horse. You will be fine.

what are those creatures in the grass

Use cut on the grass  :cookieMonster:

You begin cutting into the grass with your broadsword.

Oh no! A swarm of rats! They attack the three of you at once, leaving damage on everyone!

Virgil's HP: 40/45
Geoffrey's HP: 15/20
Mr. Horsey's HP: 5/10

Obviously you are not Virgil the Purple, but actually Biggus Smallius!  Slay these rat brothers!

Oh crap oh crap oh crap

Kill em

>Cast Squirtle, splash attack

>Kill the ones attacking you and try to flee

your main responsibility is to not let horsey die.

so slay those rats

Kill em

slay those rats

>Kill the ones attacking you and try to flee

You attack the rats with full gusto, taking out the majority of them.

But the damned things keep spawning! You make a quick book to the field, but the rats are on your tail (no pun intended)!

: What the hell just happened?

: Heh, woah dude, haven't you ever leveled up before?

: I'm sorry, do what?

: Go up a level! Haven't you ever killed someone before?

: Well no, it's against our tribe's code of honor. But we have killed small animals like rats before, but this has never happened.

: Haven't you ever noticed the big tattoo you were born with? Well, here, look at my arm.

: What? Well, then why did the small one glow blue too?

: You seriously don't leave the forest much, do you? Ok, first lesson: what's chasing us is what's called a rat swarm. A swarm is typically small creatures that get it into themselves to attack on lookers. Now these buggers were neutral alignment, so we must have just spooked em, but had them been evil or even just chaotic good, then we'd have had a problem. Now, we're lucky these aren't moon rats, but that's another story. The little bastards only deal 1d6, but they do tend to carry diseases, we'll have to have a cleric or a potion maker in town check us out. Anyway, just keep running, we should be fine. Second lesson: what you just got is called experience. It's the world's way of giving us an incentive to keep trucking. Kill a dude? Get experience. Kill enough dudes? Get enough experience to go up a level. Go up a level? Be able to kill bigger dudes. It's a vicious cycle, and I love it. The little man in the back got some XP cause he's technically in our party now, I guess. Cool, I've never been in a party before.

: Well that's all nice as well, but we should probably continue running!

Rats cant swim right? Run through the water!

yeah i don't think it's wise to go in the cave, my guess is that there would be even more monsters there

so
Run through the water!

Lose the rats and then go to the cave to slay the owlbear.

Rats cant swim right? Run through the water!

You jump into the river!

The rats slowly trickle downwards.

Gross.

Lose the rats and then go to the cave to slay the owlbear.

What a spooooky cave.
