Author Topic: RTB Dedicated Hosting Service - Service Closing  (Read 362679 times)

In the next couple of weeks there's going to be a new RTB add-on release to add the ingame server manager. To remind you guys, here's a few development pictures:

Initially the server manager will only allow you to control your server, load bricks, access the server chat and console. That feature set will be expanded in due course.

This release should hopefully contain the new chatroom functionality for RTB Connect so there will be a closed beta for this release which all customers will have the opportunity to opt into (more info on this later):

Since main RTB development has started up again, I'll be offering all RTB Hosting customers (expired or active) the chance to receive early releases and beta releases when those become available. There may also be some early adopter perks included such as the ability to run some of the privately owned trial chat rooms being released in 4.1.

Dang, gotta say that's probably one of the most beautiful GUIs I've seen in Blockland. I looked at the middle image, the only thing that bugged me was the lack of alignment of the text and icons on the sidebar, then noticed it was there in the third. I presume that's a newer image then?

Will we be able to take advantage of the console access through RTB to create extensions to the Server Manager? Like if we had a player list available, I can't imagine it'd be too hard to add new admin options that worked just by sending a console command. Would be neat if a more official implementation would let us set those up on the server so they get sent to the clients using the server manager, kinda like RTB's pref menu.

Err yes, the alignment is definitely fixed in the current version.

I've not actually thought about this a whole bunch - it does definitely mean you can create your own extensions but there's no kind of framework in place or anything so you're on your own a bit.

I've been giving a lot of thought to being able to create your own 'pages' or at the very least custom settings that are defined by your server and may be changed via the online or ingame panels, much like the rtb prefs system as you said. I'll float a few ideas for that past you guys soon - it's definitely something I want to explore further and something that would be valuable to most users.

Wow! This is amazing! Good idea Ephi :)

Good god that is beautiful, great work :)

That's really nice! The GUI is very nice and doesn't seem very confusing at all.

I kinda suspected this would get an in-game manager, but not this soon. Great way to keep RTB ahead of the other services.

Why do you need an in-game manager when you can do everything from the Web site?
If the computer can play Blockland, it has the capability to browse the web.

Just adding more value to our product! It's clearly loads faster to quickly swap to the overlay than switching to a browser and navigating to the control panel. The in-game manager will probably never have all the features of the main web manager but it's great for fast changes.

That and it's fantastic for people who play full screen. Plus you can load bricks as easily as you might when hosting your own server without having to go to the website and upload your save there. It opens a whole range of exciting doors for our customers.

It's helpful for those who use fullscreen, as alt tabbing takes a few seconds. Not only that but it makes access to your RTB server more mobile.

Add a "Join Server" button in the GUI, so you can remotely join the server. Other than that, I love it.

Is this exclusive to the service or for all servers?

Exclusive to the service, it's all based on the existing hosting framework.

Oh my gosh I've needed that for so long.
