Yeah, there's a plugin for RPM, I don't imagine Steam has been tested with CentOS, Mandriva, or Fedora, though.
I would switch over to Linux Mint as my main OS if I could get Multi Theft Auto: San Andreas to work on it, now that Steam is being ported over.

I got MTA to work on Linux through Wine, install the latest DirectX Runtime package and it should run.
