Alright I found most (if not similar) parts on Newegg and here's my new build with i5 and 960:
EVGA 02G-P4-2963-KR GeForce GTX 960
Intel Core i5-4590
ASRock Z97 Anniversary LGA 1150 Intel Z97
Rosewill CAPSTONE Series CAPSTONE-550

Edit: turns out it's a little over his budget, got any links to cheaper prices?
Sure thing

EDIT: Does it have to be on Newegg? Because you can save lots of cash if you buy the parts elsewhere.

I'll ask him if he minds buying from multiple sites. Thanks for helping out!

Also rebates aren't a thing he can do really. You still have to pay full price up front.

yo so i'm considering bringing my old computer with me on a 12hr trip to wisconsin. what's the best way to pack my hard drives to keep them safe? i'm not sure if i have any spare anti static bags, i didn't think to save them while i was building my current computer.
i'd like to know this too cause im moving soon and i don't want to break any of my stuff

When traveling/shipping computers honestly the only thing you have to really worry about is the video card. If you still have the box, take out the video card and put it int he box. Unless You are going across super bumpy terrain, you don't need to do anything special with the hard drives.

im now stuck on an ancient laptop that screams at me sometimes when i turn it on

Holy jesus.

Be glad you have a gig of RAM. Lots of XP systems ran on 256MB.

this one was from my dad's workplace, it was meant to be used for programming in industrial settings (hence the name "field PG"). but now it's used for skype, the forums, and nothing else.

also i still can't figure out why it screams at me sometimes when i turn it on. i'll be off making breakfast while it boots and you'll just hear BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP from the laptop and you have to unplug it and take the battery out for it to shut up. it's not listed anywhere on beep code identifier for the phoenix bios

My mmb won't work on my cm storm reaper so I'm trying to open the program to rebind it but it refuses to launch

I've tried resetting then trying but it didn't change anything - yes my mouse is plugged right into the computer and not a hub.

did you make any changes to it recently? any weird noises?

950Ti coming out soon. Prob 150 bucks.
Console or greater performance without the need of a power supply update.

Oh boy. To bad it would still likely not be an upgrade for me with my R9 270
