This might seem like a dumb question, but is SLI basically combining the power of 2 graphics cards for one output?

SLI = having multiple (not exclusively just 2) Nvidia graphics cards in use at the same time to utilize their combined power

Crossfire = having multiple (not exclusively just 2) AMD graphics cards in use at the same time to utilize their combined power

Yes.

Nvidia = SLI

AMD = Crossfire

Just to try and end the Titan/690 debate,

a single Titan will only outperform one 690 in situations where SLI does not scale as well performance wise (leaving the 690 at a disadvantage)

two Titans      >   one 690
two Titans     <    two 690s
three Titans   >   two 690s
four Titans     >   pretty much anything

I would personally go with the Titan because there is room for more Titans. Once you get to 3-4 Titans you have power that can't be matched by two 690s, not to mention all of the other great features packed with a Titan.

Except for the fact that the 690 outperformed the Titan in everything Maximum PC threw at them, even in Crysis 3, which has garbage scaling.

well I guess if you could only ever get one, go for the 690 then.

I see these as 'premium' cards, as in, the people who would buy these have the money for more of them - and those people would likely go for 3-4 Titans.

revised opinion: if you can only get one, get a 690, but otherwise load up on Titans

I don't even want to know the power draw of 4 Titans under full load.

You'll need a 1500W psu.

My school is it's own ISP, why can't I be my own ISP?
Your school pays thousands of dollars a year for a stable connection to be an ISP. Get the money and you can be one too.

I was thinking of getting this headset. Is it any good? I want it black and red to fit with my setup

im pretty sure since the titan is so new, it would sell for more money than a 690, so if i sold it i would be able to get different parts because a 690 would bottleneck me to richards

Do you guys know anything about overclocking GPU's? I'm thinking of upping my 860mhz 7850 (asus) to 1000mhz. Is there some sort of gpu cooler that would be affordable? Or do I have to upgrade the airflow in my case. Also, what's an acceptable GPU temp under load and while idling?

would you be wiling to get a waterblock for your GPU? or if you dont have a liquid cooling loop would you be willing to make one?

you really don't need heavy cooling for a GPU OC. my 580 has a pretty decent OC on just stock cooler. you can set a custom fan profile to make sure things don't get too hot. make sure your case has good airflow. make sure you torture test it (put it under full load) for a while to make sure it's stable. make sure you can't see any artifacts.

my 580 runs about 80C under load so somewhere around there would be fine?

idling at 33C right now

I have decided to pursue my dream of building a computer. Unfortunately I do not have the money right now :C
