Okay. If I should get new RAM, what's recommended by you guys?

1333mhz ram is a bit outdated, I mean an upgrade to 1886 or even 2133 wouldnt hurt

I have DDR2 800 RAM. :cookieMonster:

Linus did some RAM benchmarks a while back and found out that there is relatively little performance gain for the average gamer when upgrading to faster RAM

Not outdated. Yes it's slow, but it's extremely common in laptops, even in some high end ones.
laptops =/= desktop

My friend wants a computer and he said that I could build one for him. His budget is $600-800. He does not need a monitor, keyboard + mouse, and cd drive (already has them). He is not for sure if he has a windows disk or not. He will mostly use it for gaming, so he just needs the best you can buy for ~$800.

how can someone be unsure if you have a windows disc or not, like you either have it or dont

he's probably to lazy to check if he does or not ;D

His dad owns a pawn shop, so he may be able to find one.

well im going to compile a ~750 build without the disc

better video card and ram than spook's build, at the expense of a 4-core cpu instead of an 8-core
unless you are doing intensive video or photo editing, you don't really need those extra cores as most games utilize only 1-4

Okay I don't think he will need a $300 GPU. Would it better to have a better CPU? Any good intel builds instead of AMD? Also he said he could add more on to it later. So maybe 4gb ram for now and smaller hard drive?

why doesn't he need a good gpu? does he want to play on like high settings instead of ultra even if he can afford it? amd cpu's are fine, intel is generally for higher-budget builds. and he could always upgrade to 16gb of ram if he wants. and why waste money on a small hard drive than a big one? just buy that one now (1tb should be enough) and not worry about it later.
