It's good for whatever he's doing, but doesn't making music need like a super mega awesome processor or something like that

no, music doesn't really need a good processor
he needs a good processor/ram/gpu for video editing though

Are refurbs/used generally a good idea for most parts?

Not really, it's an integrated graphics chip, and you won't get the most out of the processor if you get a graphics card to go along with it.

I believe it's an FM2 socket type, it probably isn't a very quality motherboard either.

Doesn't just look like death.  It's loving awful.  I own one.

if someone has the time would they please find a
laptop that is around £300 and is good for gaming,
has good storage and 64bit. thanks!
