how would you know?  You've probably used what, two in your entire life?

They're not built for overclocking, they're built to keep your processor at a temperature that won't fry it while it's doing its intended purpose and power.

I don't overclock. My old computer had a stock cooler and I ran one on my computer before I had a different cooler and it ran at 50c idle.

Stock coolers are never an issue unless you push the CPU or other components on the inside.

I had to move my RAM over 2 slots just to get the cooler to fit, so I'm pretty sure it's still making use of dual-channel, I just had to move them from slots 1 and 3 to 2 and 4.

The /only/ time I've ever had a computers stock heatsink and fan not working out running the PC to a point it would damage the CPU was with an old athlon ii in a business PC, and I've built probably a hundred or so gaming PC's, probably 35 of which had stock coolers

I just OC'd my FX 8120 to 4.0 ghz.

I can run all my games on dolphin at full speed. It's amazing.

I used a Phenom ii x4 stock cooler and an FX stock cooler. Both outcomes were the same

Coolers and overclocking really depend on your environment.

I have my system in a hot apartment most of the time. So I upgraded to a liquid cooling system.
