Have you considered looking elsewhere for parts? Newegg isn't always the cheapest.

He could just PCPartPicker all the parts and see what comes up.

Yes. Yes he could.

Also, don't buy actual parts from eBay or places like that, if it's DOA then chances are you can't return it. I did this with my HDD, and thankfully it was fine, but really, it's not a good idea.

Not exactly, but it's more convenient than having to order from 5 different retailers to get it $20 cheaper.

EDIT: Just to say I tried, I went on Amazon and the only thing I could find cheaper was the hard drive.

I find Amazon to be cheaper most of the time, so I usually just order all my parts from there.

Alright back to getting my friend a decent build, here is one I came up with: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/1Zh4K
~$750 is his price range. Is this build good?

get another stick of ram to make it dual channel + a lot of games are starting to need more than 4gb
you dont need 750w of power, get 650w instead and put money somewhere else
unless your friend does video editing he doesnt need an 8 core. 6 or even 4 is sufficient for gaming. you could probably get a i5 4670k instead.
everything else is fine I guess

The inside of my build, still needs some work :/
The cabling by the HDDs is really bad :/

I agree with most of this
Couple extra things: You probably don't even need 650 watts either, for a 270X a 500W gold supply would be more than sufficient. That motherboard is a little pricey too, 90% guarantee that he wont use any of the extra stuff on the mobo that he pays for with that one. I agree with what titanium is saying about the cpu, but the 4670k is probably a bit out of your budget. I recommend the i5-3350P. It needs a different motherboard, but like I said before you should get a cheaper one anyway

What case is that? It looks like we have the same case
