Overclocking is hard to do right. I've given up trying to overclock because it is potentially dangerous to the hardware and it doesn't really bring in any significant difference to day-to-day use.

a guy teaching a computer hardware class that i attended said that he's seen an amd explode because someone forgeted up overclocking it. he also saw one catch on fire

i doubt they actually explode, the worst i've seen them do is have a bit of smoke come off it.

back in 2012 i purchased a computer from iBuyPower, a computer company that lets you select parts and whatever the forget you want in it
recently, it's been having some issues. at one point even shut itself off completely during web browsing.
i've also had BSOD's but they seem to be all related to the actual hard drive itself, supposing its dying.
in a probable 1-3 months, i'm going to be purchasing a new system from their site. no, i'm not building. i don't really care if its cheaper or not because i've been saving enough money for my price range.

i also found a new company "cyberpowerPC", basically the same as ibuypower.
can anyone give any opinions on the companies, possibly some recommendations? i've backed up all the stuff i need and in the future probably going to use the system i have now as a linux server.

run a memtest.

ive seen many examples of ram going shotty, and its only noticeable when in game or youtube or even flash stuff running for an hour, or even up to 3 hours before a crash or bsod.

In all seriousness, i would highly suggest fixing the cooling before even thinking about overclocking.


Speaking of GTA V tho, my CPU tends to get to 60c and my GPU gets up to 75c, all at nearly max settings

You need a 1k comp to be at that tier

I just made these up, but i would say...

<$600 stuff comp, do not even game
$600 low end gaming
$1000 good gaming, it's better then console trash.
$1500 high end gaming
$2000+ extreme

And all parts fall into those tiers. But it's a bad idea to mix and match em. If you budget for a certain level of computer, you should only use parts that are meant for it. Not grab like a high end video card to run over a low end cpu

so the 970 is too much for the rest of the build?

For 900 bucks I built my i5 4690k GTX 970 build.

Also this 980 ti is making me so hard.

the 4440 and the 4690 are literally the exact same loving thing but different clocks/boost
if you can save $30-$40 going with the 4440 then take it because they perform almost identically, also no it won't bottleneck a 970

the thing is i didn't get a chance to customize and ended up getting a hitachi harddrive.
