damnit, i didn't even consider a cpu bottleneck. i was told my setup would run fine with a gpu upgrade

well it's AMD...

amd isnt a bad thing normally. but they dont even have a modern cpu, for a while even. zen is still some time away here.

safely ran 4.5 mhz oc, gained 2 fps. looks like it's time to drop several hundred more dollars fml

i dont know why amd cpu do so poorly when paired with 900 and 1000 series cards.
if it was only about clocks, it should be fine, but ive seen people struggle with modern games using a fx8350 @4.7mhz + 970.

like i run a 6700k at 4.5. that is arguably lower then some power house amd clocks. maybe more games are using hyper-threading or something these days and it actually makes that big a difference.

why tf is ddr2 ram so expensive
i should be able to buy like 16gb for like $20 by now

So no-one is going to give me any sort of suggestions or anything?

I never saw you ask for any

because no one makes ddr2 anymore lol.
its basically collectible hardware now. buy used on ebay if you need any.

considering it's a bit rare now you're better off just buying some DDR3 and upgrading your mobo.

like honestly if your motherboard is so old that you're using ddr2 at that point its best just to scrap the motherboard and buy a new one, you probably won't be able to even get a decent CPU

it's due to the massive IPC difference stemming from architecture and the node it's built on. piledriver is still built on 32nm and AMD seemed to focus on multi-core efficiency. compared to intel's 14nm process for skylake. like jesus, that's one hell of a difference

I bet they'd struggle on modern games with 4.7MHz...

im just pointing out a silly typo dont kill me

Yeah your AMD will NOT cut it... good lord who told you your CPU would be good??

I think it's the design of their chips.  They're just not well designed and focused on delivering a cheap processor with tons of cores cranked up to high clock rates, but this means jack stuff if the circuitry on the inside isn't great.

I've always gone with Intel in any PC build I put together for anyone for this alone, AMD processors just don't perform as well period and are meant for the very cheap.

Finished my PC yesterday.
Specs:

You bought a 1060 and 6600K but you didnt have money for a FullHD monitor
Ok
