Try to get taken as a hostage then forget with your capturers. Go limp. Uppercut their noses to smash a bone into their brains. etc.

The founding fathers allowed us to own guns to resist a tyrannical government, like the many kings of the age. It was a lot more likely for your government to up and say "hey, you forgeters are slaves now" than it is today. I'd personally blame our problems on our increasingly violent society.
