Author Topic: Why in the name of hell do we sit in a corner during a lockdown at school?  (Read 7268 times)

The founding fathers allowed us to own guns to resist a tyrannical government, like the many kings of the age. It was a lot more likely for your government to up and say "hey, you forgeters are slaves now" than it is today. I'd personally blame our problems on our increasingly violent society. Our country has nothing going for it and the American Dream is falling apart fast.
Good point.

I know in my school, my Geology teacher has a different policy.
See, at my school, the Geology teacher is awesome. He turned "rocks for jocks" into a "Get out there and smash stuff to find out what's inside while still learning" class. He has about twenty-five rock hammers.
The idea is to perch next to the door during a lockdown with a big metal rock hammer or two ready to drop on an unsuspecting gunman's head.
We never have school shootings in our area so it's a moot point, but still, it's almost amusing to imagine.

What are the chances, that a Lone gunman, is to see me escaping one of, 6 exits?

A lot higher than you'd expect, kid.
I seem to remember either you or mlockha admitted to being a hyperactive twelve-year-old in the Bluzone thread last summer. I don't remember which one.

What if, everyone, in your school, did the, same thing?

What are the chances, that a Lone gunman, is to see me escaping one of, 6 exits?

Are you stupid, it most likely won't be a lone gunman, he'll most likely have someone there to back him up.

Besides, It's not like these 6 exits will be extremely easy to get to, before you even have the chance he'll most likely have them locked or block them off.

perhaps he'll pull, a columbine, and place explosives, at each exit

as someone who actually has a tiny bit of sense of human morality and how guns work, literally any person shooting up a school would not loving flinch at a kid with a knife. he'd have shoot you before you could get out your knife, un-sheath it from it's sheath, and stab or throw it--not to mention most, if not all, people go into a state of shock when they are confronted with someone two feet taller than them with an assault rifle, hunting rifle, shotgun, or any gun for that matter. plus, they would be wearing at least some amount of armor so that your swiss army knife couldn't do stuff.

oh and do you have any idea how well-covered schools are to crack down on weapons?

for a school here, there are three armed police officers, and a metal detector at the door. unless you have a fiberglass knife that is disguised as a wallet, you stand no chance of bringing a knife to school.

Not all people are professional marksmen...

rock hammers
(those things are a bitch to lug around everywhere though, so in this case you'd be better off with a broken pair of scissors or something)

Now explain why it works for many other countries.

What is to stop someone from getting a gun illegally in those countries? If they really want to, they WILL do it. You cannot deny that, just because a law is there doesn't mean everyone who acquires a weapon one way or another is instantly noticed.

All of my classrooms are on the second story so windows aren't an option of escape. The area that our school calls the "yard" is basically a small courtyard with two exits. The yard is the entrance to all of the classes, and there is only two ways out of each hallway. Our school was practically screw over any escape plan for the 8th graders.

I have no formal gun training and I have shot a target from ten yards with every gun I've shot. 30 feet is the max distance a student would be away from the gunman unless he's in a gym or something.

Shooting is not hard, and I'm guessing that the gunman would have better accuracy and gun training than a 12 year old.

You also need to count that you'll probably be experiencing the affects of adrenaline and shaking like hell because you're shooting up a school. Look up some of those videos of civilians and criminals having firefights in close-quarters and you'll see how unlikely it is for you to hit.

-snipples-
It's easier to shoot something that isn't screaming and/or moving around in a depserate attempt to survive.

I have an action plan for protecting myself and/or othes from
A gunman. It involves throwing some object close at hand to distract him, then grabbing his arm or rifle point and thrusting it into the air. That would give someone time to react and help me. If I fail and get shot it's more likely someone else will have the chance to stop the gunman, and it also
gives people time to get away. If I'm too far ill just run.

Put your thumb in the gun-barrel. That'll work just as well as your plan there.

As in not at all. If the guy is trying to shoot up a school, it's likely he's stronger than a teenager.
