don't try to be a badass

if they got close i would knock them back with the butt of my rifle/shotgun/whatever, knocking them off balance, giving you the advantage of a good shot.

There are three different scenarios I will account for here
Slow-ass horde zombies: Problem with that strategy is that you'll attract a horde. Attempting to knock them back will result in getting bitten. Likely your resolve will not be enough to overcome the pain of teeth tearing into your flesh, and then you dead.
Fast zombies: You'll get bitten in close proximity. If not then you'll attract zombies and then you dead.
Armed hostiles: They have guns brother you dead.

Still counting my plan as the most reasonable.

M4 Carbine

M92F pistol

M9 Bayonet.

Ammunition for each weapon (except for bayonet because they don't need ammunition) is very common in North America, so you've got that.  Plus there are tons of them in America, so you've got parts readily available if you've got to repair yours.

i need help, which is better when attacking with a blade weapon: speed or strength?

not that hard, google "10 pound swords".

katanas are really light-weight, what you DO NOT want. like someone else said, it's pretty much just for looks.
Do you have any idea how heavy a 10 pound sword would be?
Most guns are only like 6 or 7 pounds and that's pretty heavy to lug around everywhere.
Just because its lightweight doesn't make it "just for looks"
