Mario is Nintendo's mascot. If they didn't make games for that franchise anymore, no one would play Nintendo games.

And anyways, what do you mean "So many"? There are multiple different spin offs in the Mario series' and those series' get sequels like once every 5 or 4 years. If Nintendo created a new platforming IP, people would just think "Why wouldn't you just use Mario?".

there's a plain and simple difference between mario and cod, and that's the fact that each (or er - a lot) of the mario games are different from each other
just because it has the same main character doesn't make it an over milked franchise

Every installment of Cod just adds new guns and a few new maps along with some super rushed campaign.

Mario in the other hand gets new game mechanics, moves, enemies and obstacles that can change how the whole game is played.

The nsmb series is just increasingly unoriginal. It plays fine, its fun. Galaxy 2 is way better than galaxy 1. I don't think you have played any of these games you're citing.
