as slowbeef pointed out on twitter, it's completely within their right to do this. How fair is it for someone else to make money off of their content?
Except the game is only about 25% of the reason people watch.
It's not like a movie or a TV show where it's a set experience; watching people play a game is about how you interact with it and your personal experiences. Every gameplay is a little different and a lot of people just watch for the commentary.
This is just proving Nintendo is out of touch again; look at how much let's players help the industry advertise. It's what every other game dev says, I mean hell, Sony have a built in streaming mechanic with the PS4 (in partners with twitch so that means it also must include getting paid to do streams if enough people watch and you get ad sponsers like on youtube). It's not just the big devs either, Mike Bithell recently tweeted about how Thomas Was Alone would have sold nothing without let's players, and how when totalbiscuit covered the game the sales on that day were eight times what they were on launch.
if your job is to have people watch you play video games you're a cunt.
Why? It's entertainment and/or video game journalism, but I suppose you also think movie reviewers should be banned from reviewing movies.
