Well, it breaks my heart to see the DS finally pack its bags. Its been removed from Nintendo's site completely, you can no longer view information about it and check its list of games.
It seems the Wii is getting the axe too, because all Wii links now go to Wii Mini on the Nintendo site.
Does anyone know if Wii wifi is shutting down too? Come on Nintendo, at least spare Mario Kart Wii...

ironically it shuts down around the same time as Mariokart 8 comes out.
Also Philips is trying to patent troll Nintendo. Their goal is to get Wii U banned in North America.
Apparently the Wii U is infringing their 2011 patent for a "User interface system based on pointing device". I looked into it a bit and the requirements for the patent infringement to be true is that there is a camera taking pictures and a digital signal processor for detecting the pointing device on the picture. It's supposed to be about the Wiimote, but there isn't a camera anywhere in the motion control process. The sensor bar has 2 infrared lights coming out of it that give the Wiimote's sensor a sense of space and where it is being pointed at, which it sends to the console. My question is why isn't Philips suing Sony over the PS move? They're the ones with an actual camera and a pointing device of the description.
The other patent that Wii U is apparently infringing (also from Philips) is a 2001 patent for a "Virtual body control device", "Virtual body modeling apparatus operable to generate and animate under user direction a representation of a body in a virtual environment". The only thing in the Wii U that does something even near this is the Miimaker's camera feature, and that's as basic as basic can get. Billion other things have done something like this, why isn't Philips suing them? Why haven't they sued Microsoft for their Kinect? Kinect is exactly what this is.
