i like the idea that the boomerang is technically useful but awkward and unreliable more then the idea that the boomerang just eventually breaks

it fits with the whole 'everyone doesnt know what theyre doing' theme that the game has going on

i'll be honest i agree with bushido

the boomerang is overrated - it actually doesn't do a ton of damage and is pretty slow firing so its only worth attempting to use if you're at low health and need to clear out a room. otherwise its considerably less effective than charging in and using your upgraded sword/mace/whatever, and using the bodies of dead enemies or room decor to do ranged damage instead

Yeah the boomerang is going to be tweaked, I'm thinking of making it a bit more powerful but making it so you have to actually catch it.

Then if you fail, the monsters can pick it up like they already can, making it more risky.

No context, guess what I'm working on:

An arcade machine in the inn!

A clown's tub of psychedelia.

I think that you should check out this type of boomerang mechanic.

Then if you fail, the monsters can pick it up like they already can, making it more risky.
You should give monsters a hierarchy of items they want to pick up so the boomerang and other actually useful things will take priority.

Considering it's noise, possibly semi-random graphics for ground tiles?

Some sort of blindness status effect? No, probably not that.

Probably what Joe said, though I'd probably make my own guess that it's a portal for some super awesome inter-dimensional travel.

The mystery is compounded by the angle at which they are displayed.

Hint: not an exciting gameplay feature sadly, but still exciting.
