you didn't actually think i'd just abandon all my progress and just mope around all day blaming everyone did you? lol, just because a couple of noobs give up doesn't mean i'm going to give up with them.
On the future
I've decided that I'm going to put this into use early. As you might have known, this project was an attempt to create a new RPG and combat system which would be tested through an interesting story-driven world instead of through a bland bare-bones box world. This project was essentially a glorified test-zone. While items would be unique and events would occur, character wipes wouldn't be as big of a deal as they would on certain other projects. This was more of a sandpark RPG than a sandbox RPG, you are free to change the story by acting the way you choose, but the world is already defined and built, and you can't build outside specific zones. Because of this, I wasn't as afraid of exploits ruining people's hard work and builds, because it wouldn't be possible. It was a much safer way of testing.
Now that I'm essentially putting this on indefinite hiatus, i'm not going to let everything I coded and modeled go to waste. Like I said, this was a test project for a future project.
I've decided to start remaking Pirate RPG. PRPG planned to implement the combat system, GUI framework, event code, item generation, and more from this project. I decided the BAO would be a good idea so I could give PRPG a break and think it all through (what would work, what wouldn't, how things should work) while at the same time getting a chance to kinda write my own RPG story. Even though BAO isn't complete or publicly tested, I feel that what I have will be enough to at least get started on the PRPG remake
Even though PRPG is going to be taking the helm, this project won't be totally dead. Eventually I plan to re-initiate it when it gains more support. The code and current progress doesn't just disappear, it's just stored away for a bit. BAO planned to implement a bunch of things from other media and stuff, and I think it will still be cool. While BAO is a framework for PRPG, it has its own features that make it unique, such as the AI focus, story, and characters. Work that goes into PRPG can be used in BAO code, and vice versa, so don't count this for good.
Unlike BAO, PRPG is a sandbox RPG where all I really need to do is lay out the code and the islands, and people will create maintain the living world entirely on their own. It's up to the players to form towns, alliance, and the like. I am free to add in content when I will, and it's not dependent on me updating a main story. I've already had people offer to build islands, so that is nice. Islands are also much easier to work on than entire themed worlds. The detail and effort that had to go into the build was what really brought BAO down. Not saying islands don't require effort, but they certainly aren't as taxing as a whole zone.
Now PRPG will be coming back with it's own host of new features. A lot of these you'll find already in this topic. PRPG will be much less grind oriented and more focused on exploration, building, diplomacy, and combat. A whole host of dynamic features will come into play, making fighting marines and pirates alike much more interesting. No longer will they have the same weapons, and with the addition of new powers, no two players will be exactly the same. New treasure, ships, items, and outfits will add a lot more flavor to the game world! There are a lot more features that I've come up with, but here really isn't the place, so expect to see those listed in the official topic.
I can certainly work on PRPG alone, but that doesn't mean I prefer it to be that way. I'd love people to volunteer to help out; just say what you'd like to work on and ideas you have and I'll be sure to consider. I'm not going to convert this thread, I'm just going to let it die. An official topic will be opening up soon with a lot more PRPG related details. I'm probably going to begin working this coming weekend, so feel free to message me or post about anything you want to know
I'm anticipating restarting PRPG, and I can't wait to see how it turns out. I lot of people have asked me to start this again, so I decided now is the perfect time. There will certainly be difficulties, but I won't know until I try. I look forward to working on this huge undertaking again. I hope to see you all in-game soon!
