Author Topic: Land of Blocks - Blockland's RPG SERVER ONLINE (Hosting again!)  (Read 55122 times)

Horses are safe, in safe zones, so it's not really lame. Don't like it, go code your own RPG.
Well that was rude.

i'm certain this will either be completely ignored or just dismissed by elm anyway but w/e

elm you're a capable enough coder to make this. no one is disputing that and no one has any reason to. kinda strange how you load your scripts into base instead of keeping them in an add-on where it makes sense (i guess they're too good or something), and obviously we can't see your code to see if it's any good, but it works fine.

but that's only, like, one third of the work. you have to be able to make it fun. and that's something that requires more thought. that's really what the hard part is, especially in a limited environment like blockland. the easiest way to do this really is just to think more "as a gamer, what would be actually fun?" instead of "alright i want to make an RPG so here are the systems and now i'm implementing them". and guess who else is a gamer? your players. your players are the ones playing the game and they know what they want to have fun. the great thing about a small following is you can try out adding lots of random features and see how your playerbase reacts without upsetting them (collectively) too badly. if you would work in this way more, your rpg would be loads better. but instead, you take any suggestion as an insult to your work or something. stoooooooooooop :(. that is not how you make a game.

and it's not as if you're the only one guilty of this; it's a common issue with any RPG game.

kinda strange how you load your scripts into base instead of keeping them in an add-on where it makes sense (i guess they're too good or something)

How is this even relevant to anything?

the easiest way to do this really is just to think more "as a gamer, what would be actually fun?" instead of "alright i want to make an RPG so here are the systems and now i'm implementing them"

The problem with this is, half of the players are not gamers, and like things to be easy. I've always enjoyed a challenge, and that's what I present. So of course there will be complaints.

but instead, you take any suggestion as an insult to your work or something

There's a difference between a well written suggestion, and something like this:

Lame. If you can't predict that players will kill your horse just so you can waste 30k then I have lost hope in this server.

This is still in Beta anyways, and I'm working on this as a hobby. I can't sit here on Blockland all day, catering to everyone's suggestions (which are mostly bad).

Also, Racerboy came in, and saw Speedblade and said, "Speedblade's here, I'm leaving" and left. I guess someone should stick to Jail RPS / City RPS.

i think this is on the right track and it should continue where it's going! i'm optimistic about the future!

wtf does it matter where he puts his code? I think you're just trying to find ways to bash Elm now.

It's Elm's RPG, he can do what he wants with it, stop being babies over it, don't like it, don't post about it, or play it, no one's making you.

so the issue is your players don't know what a real game is and your rpg is difficult on purpose through the design choices you've made...?

i doubt that's what you really mean elm

fair enough

this isn't really a relevant thing to say. you're still implying that you're spending time on it. i never meant to suggest that you should follow every single suggestion, but i've yet to really see a case where something not trivial was even considered. and i've seen things that aren't outright garbage suggestions. i'm not saying you need to spend only time working on suggestions, but you seem to completely ignore good ones.

every time anyone says that approx. 500 ducks are slain by the anger of sixty gods

possibly in some annoying subconscious process.

was talking about your coding and i just think it's weird? i guess it wasn't really important in the context though

Is this still a grindy mine fest?
(not to be rude)

definitely sounds more annoying coming from me probably but yes

it's a flaw with the game on a fundamental level sadly. those kinds of things are tricky to get right and even harder to fix after you already have things working.

Does he even play on this server? Lol.
I dunno, just reminded me of the good ol' days. I don't play either because I don't enjoy grinding and you don't seem to like it when I skip all the grind parts and try to break the game and criticize your design choices, like this one for example:
kinda strange how you load your scripts into base instead of keeping them in an add-on where it makes sense
Oh god why the forget would you do that - you're just making a mess of your game files that way.

I probably should check it out to see if there's more I can complain about but I kinda lost interest around the fifth time you patched being able to climb out of the map.

i get the idea you like to break things jetz lol

I'm seriously trying to figure out how you came to that conclusion by spending 15 minutes in the server, mostly standing in one spot. You never even made it to the second town. You also didn't even finish the relatively simple quest. You're a funny guy though.

i finished the quest, and i experienced the elements of the game. that's all he was asking about.

when i tried to make it to the second town i started getting attacked by some joker that almost killed me

i didn't really feel motivated to do anything from the start either. i thought i missed something, and asked you what the incentive was. i'm pretty sure you insulted me after that, but it's likely i'm mixing things up.

idk you do have a point but i feel like the things that occured make it less valid
