From the Kickstarter page...

Shovel Knight is a sweeping classic action adventure game with awesome gameplay, memorable characters, and an 8-bit retro aesthetic. It's a hot mashup of new and old that may remind you of Mega Man, Castlevania, or Dark Souls! You play as the eponymous Shovel Knight, a small knight with a huge quest. Shovel Knight has come to this valley with two goals: to defeat the evil Enchantress and save his lost beloved. He wields a ShovelBlade: a multipurpose weapon whose techniques have now been lost to the ages. Always honest and helpful, Shovel Knight is a shining example of the code of Shovelry: Slash Mercilessly and Dig Tirelessly!

But, between Shovel Knight and his beloved stands a cadre of villainous knights. These terrible foes, known as The Order of No Quarter, have been dispatched to prevent Shovel Knight from reaching the Enchantress, and will pursue their mission at any cost.

If you love games with perfect platforming, beautiful art, infectious music, crazy bosses, and real heart… Shovel Knight is for you! If you don’t, then what? How could you not be into that stuff? Keep reading, you’ll come around!

The Kickstarter page does a fantastic job explaining everything you need to know, so rather than me just copying and pasting everything from there, go see for yourself!

how is dark souls related
its more like the enemies are kinda adaptive
when you jump over shield knights they raise their shield up so you can just downstrike them.
when it comes out someone tell me if they find the baz

I wish that tier gave you a PC copy too.

Q: You say this game is going to be like Dark Souls. How is it going to be like Dark Souls?

A: We love the rhythm of combat in Dark Souls, and the way you feel true fear at facing the unknown. The soul upgrading and death mechanics in that game are also refreshing and wonderful. That palpable tension that comes from fear of death!

ok, will buy on WiiU

I'VE BEEN WAITING
IT LOOKS SO loving GOOOOOOOD

They're about $350 away from Challenge Mode, the popularity just keeps rising and at this rate I'm expecting all the Stretch Goals to be reached by the end of the Kickstarter. 4-Player Battle Mode sounds incredible.

Well, they got the NES pallet right. Sounds like the developers know how to make a retro game.

you ONLY seem to care about the palettes in pixel games
if you want a 100% NES-like game, buy a NES and play it
just saying

this looks interesting, sadly I don't have money to back it ; ;

thank god

thank god
r u saying that i suck at backing things ??? b*tch ill cut you

also, i'm wondering how gender swap would work, the knight is basically featureless and only represented by his/her armor
unless it adds boob plates onto it for some reason

I already own a Nintendo Entertainment System and 19 or so games. I was just saying that this game seems to be actually trying to be like a retro styled game.

Wow, they're already over $200,000, so it looks like we'll be getting that Battle Mode. Hopefully they'll reveal the "more mystery stuff" soon. If they send out the daily update at the same time as yesterday it'll be about 2 hours.

I also asked about an option for getting two copies of the game on different platforms, so maybe we'll get something on that.

Yacht Club posted another update with a bunch of stuff, most notably new stretch goals: A physical copy of the game to $50+ backers, another playable Boss Knight, and including all bosses in Battle Mode
