If it's a "different instance" so to speak of a species/breed then I'd consider it an "original" character. It's original in the sense that it's technically separate from any other character, even though it may have extremely similar traits. It's not really totally original from a creativity standpoint though.

Well, I mean, there really isn't one Zinogre, there are certainly many of them seeing as they are a species of monster from MH3 and on. I just made a fursona that uses the model for the species and has a feral zinogre form. It has some stylistic differences too, but I assume that's enough to make it "original".
