because they are a grown person, acting like a dog, letting a child petting them, whether they know who is in the suit or not.
This isn't any different at all from any other form of costume used to entertain children.
what else have they might have done in that suit?
Gotten hugged by another child?
Again, this point stands for any other type is costume
Who knows what else the sports team mascot did in his suit!?

I'm legitimately interested to hear a negative opinion about furries that doesn't really on ..."they just forget in suits"
Fursuit love simply isn't a big thing because a) they're hot, sweaty, and uncomfortable, b) they're expensive and would be ruined by such an act, and c) covering up your partner's face and body is unappealing

Try stepping away from the computer and interacting with people who don't spend their life online, instead of edgy angsty teens hiding behind anonymity, and you'll see that most people's reaction is either amusement, or curiosity. I've seen it over and over again: the absolute thrill on children's faces as they run up to give a giant dog a hug, followed by smiles on their parents' faces. We'll get a lot of parents coming up to us asking what this is and thanking us for doing it
