Not change. Just unawareness.
Are you people bitching about professional chess too? Nah.

You grab a big ball and swing to roll it toward the pins until it either gets tired or you win with the most points. More physically demanding than say, sitting in a chair left and right clicking while pressing hotkeys.
What about professional chess? There's nothing in the semantics of the word 'sport' that implies physically exerting. There's a term for that; it's called contact sports.

Government wasting it's tax dollars on stuff that is irrelevant.
I'm just going to go ahead and point out why it isn't irrelevant or useless. The way laws are set up, school lunches need a vegetable and sports players get visas easily. Rather than rewriting laws, which would be very costly and time consuming, it is much easier to take something and categorize it within the laws.

Well, not really.
Contact Sports is literally sports that have you make contact with an opponent, as a goal of the game or just a side-effect of playing the game.
Soccer and Basketball would be ones where you're not required to touch an opponent, but it happens.
Rugby, American Football, Martial Arts are ones where contact is designed.

A non-contact sport can still be physically exerting, like swimming, athletics, weight-lifting or sailing.

But I agree with you.
There's nothing wrong with a computer game being called a sport, just because it isn't physically demanding.

Chess, Shooting and Darts are all sports that are very lax on physical stress.
And they all require skill to do.
And there's no doubt that to play and succeed in a League of Legends tournament requires skill.

We argue for another 25 pages and you still won't change my opinion, but I love me a good debate.

Your opinion that they should completely rewrite laws for things instead of just do some reclassification.

Poker/texas holdem tournaments are recognized AFAIK. That's even less taxing than playing a video game. But w/e, that's pretty cool. They have a job, they get paid for it, good for them.

Don't mess with me man, I'm a pro athlete. I play Call of Duty all day everyday. You don't know what it's like to be an athelete. Ssome times it gets too hot and you start to sweat in your seat, you have to spend hours trying to unlock to the, also you have to deal spend 3-6 hours a day trying to unlock a gun.

Athletes play athletics.

Hey, I'd sit in a chair and hit keys to get paid possibly thousands of dollars. You can't say you wouldn't, either, if you had the chance. Also most of the time the "pros" already have the guns they need...

either way, arguing over this is dumb. enjoy your opinions and leave it at that.

If they can gather the same publicity and international participants who want to compete in the US in competitions, then I'm sure they'd start to get the same treatment.

It's not the government saying that LoL is the best game out there, just saying that there is an increasingly large amount of international players wanting to visit the US to take part in competitions, but it's difficult for them to get Visas as currently their competition isn't recognised as anything, so they're stuck trying to get through on Work Visas or Cultural Exchange Visas or whatever else they can try and persuade your border control that they're in the country for.
And when those players don't get past the US's Visa system, it means that the Gaming Comptetition Industry loses out on money, meaning that the Government loses out on tax money.

It might just be that with other games there aren't as many competitions for them, or that the competitions taking place in the US are only for US residents, or that any international competitions happen to take place in another country, so competitors don't need a special Visa to get into the US.
