this just happened to me too. You need to go into the system settings and restore default settings. It won't discard any data on the PS3. I did it and it fixed it.

i was driving through the city on my motorbike when suddenly i get killed by a giant object. As I respawned and walked around the corner, it turned out to be a giant loving ferris wheel in the middle of the street. I would have gotten a picture but then I lost internet connection.

this is unfortunately extremely typical. Also, it's super cute cuz if theres stuff lying around in freeroam, that carries over into activities. It's great fun smashing into ferris wheels that appear 2 ft. in front of you in races.
