There's no longer a "default" material so you need to click the + button.

also do you know a video that shows you how to add names to the bones/armatures? (i have blender 2.70 i dont like outdated stuff please)

I have a problem....with materials list
I already assigned materials to my Jalopy in 2.49 blender and it show no materials in the export setting materials list...
I already refreshed it many times nothing happen D:

How I fix it?

With the bone selected press N and look for the bone name field.

I don't remember exactly how to fix this. I think the object data is messed up somehow. Try appending the object/opening the file again. You could also try joining the object with a cube and then deleting the cube vertices from the mesh.

how do I assign one texture across multiple faces?

i'm trying to get one smiley face across about three or five of them

Google Blender UV mapping.

What do I do special to make a wreckage.dts?

You can either make a completely black version of the normal dts or modify it to make it look more wreck-like. There's really nothing special that needs to be done.

Ok, thanks

I swear I saw a solution to this somewhere before, but after several failed attempts at finding it, I've come to ask what I have done wrong:

With shaders

Without shaders

There should be several grays and other colors that show up besides the recolorable color (wheel mounts and engine hubs).  The yellow marks are self-illuminated, and the windshield is correctly transparented, so those two colors should look like that.

Also, an oddity right here:

That is the interior of the roosterpit.  For some reason, the interior colors showed up on most of the required faces, but there were some weird stripes of blue (paintcan color) running through the cabin, as you can see here.  There are two stripes in the picture - one just to the left of my shoulder, and another to the left of the first stripe.  I have checked the material on those faces, and they are correct.

-snip-
Never seen that happen before. As for the stripes my guess is that the blue hull faces are too close to the brown interior faces so they clip.

I swear I saw a solution to this somewhere before
Is it this by any chance
This can be fixed by making the recolourable parts (stuff with transparent textures, such as blank.png etc.) and non-recolourable parts separate objects.

Is it this by any chance

Not quite what I remember, but I'll try that.

[EDIT]

It worked, thank you!

So I have an animation issue.  (video)

The left propeller isn't animating, but I have posted a help thread on that issue already.  The Blender-related problem is the right propeller, which seems to slow down before starting another cycle.  Below are pictures of how I exported the vehicle and the Action Strip setup in the NLA Editor.

FYI:  Prop0Rot is the animation sequence for (in the pictures) the right propeller, and Prop1Rot is for the left propeller.

You need to go to the IPO Curve editor and change the curve interpolation to linear. For cyclic mechanical animations like this it's essentially a requirement.
