I feel a gripe coming on. In order for a vehicle to be a classified as a tank it has to have armor, it has to support infantry, and it has to break through defenses. So self propelled guns are classified as mobile artillery and used for direct and sometimes indirect fire. Some might argue that Tank Destroyers  are tanks, but in reality they are super fast tracked guns with zero armor and cannot support infantry since they only carry munitions such as HEAT and crush heads.

The more you know.

Generally zero armor. The Elefant was Porsche's attempt to save it's a failed Tiger prototype. The Jagpanzer was probably the best of the german tank destroyers.

This is an example modern tank destroyer.

All you need is either a big recoilless rifle or a tow missile and slap it onto any vehicle and you have a tank destroyer. However their popularity is declining with the rise of IFV's.

Which JgPanzer? As I recall there were quite a few. Besides, it's not like the Ferdinand/Elefant was a particularly bad tank destroyer by itself, it did it's job excellently. The problems it had were the same engine problems that plagued the Porsche Tiger, almost all units that were lost were lost due to breakdowns and had to be abandoned.

as amusing as that can be that won't really get you anywhere
Well I'm already at Tier IV with the Pz.Kpfw. 38(t) n.A.

All my shots seem to bounce. :c
Noobs

OP should probably have been made by someone who isn't going to get banned in the next month so it can be updated later if needed.
HA

It's engine problems and heavy weight is what made them bad. Like you mentioned either getting stuck in the mud or breaking down was their downfall.

Anyway the Jadgpanther is said to be one of the best tank destroyers that the germans can field.

However the Jagpanzer 38(t) was more common

However in Germany's case they had tanks with powerful enough guns on their tanks that the idea of a tank destroyer was unnecessary. Most of the allied tanks like the Sherman were no match for a one on one with tanks like the tiger or panther. Pershings were few in number and the allies never bothered to build heavy tanks in the mid-late war. The soviets mostly built T-34 while their KV-2's and IS-2 weren't built as much. Anyway most tank destroyers are just hit and run vehicles used for ambushes and flanking.

You guys realize this game has hardly any intention of being historically accurate until they add the whole historical battle gamemode, right
so going on and on about what makes a tank a tank or a tank destroyer is a complete waste of time

I am an arm chair general and wannabe military historian. It is in my nature.

When is multi gun support coming?
The magic conch says: "Maybe one day".

20k more EXP for the 12.8 on my Ferdinand. Fun times ahead

The good thing about this game is you don't get to experience the horrible mechanical failures that plagued your vehicle.

I don't understand what you are saying?

Most tanks are (for the most part) historically accurate to a point of still being balanced.  Certain tanks are more prone to certain failures (getting ammo racked, fuel can placement), that's why some crew bonuses lowering the chances of certain things are a must for some tanks.

The KV-1 had a stuffty transmission that had to be shifted with a hammer, the KV-2's turret could only turn on level ground, etc. The game ignores those things.

Those are too indepth for the tanks to be balanced, that's why they aren't in the game
