Author Topic: why isnt america spending time trying to fix detroit  (Read 12121 times)

Detroit is beyond salvageable with the current state of our economy.  our spending is still out of control and our government still can't decide on anything these days, so it's likely that detroit will bust in the future and just become the first of its kind in america, a modern ghost town.

lol people are saying our government has no money to give. Have you seen the things the federal gov has been spending on?

1. Foreign aid that doesn't go to the mass populations of other countries at all.

2. heres 50 examples of government waste that you can google: http://www.heritage.org/research/reports/2009/10/50-examples-of-government-waste#_edn6
(Not all of them are a complete waste in my definition but still)

3. $34 million dollar base in Afghanistan thats going to be demolished and was never used.

4. Many other cases too.

that doesn't mean the government will decide to push money into detroit.  the problem is that the gov't IS spending all that money, there's no way you can convince them to spend it on reviving detroit.

I am not. I am just saying that our government isn't exactly trying to stop spending at the moment. This is a huge problem.

I want to move there because I think it looks like a nice city.
I live in Detroit, no you don't. It's not as bad everybody in this thread says it is, but it's pretty bad at some spots. It's wierd downtown, one side you have a nice modern city then on another you have a destroyed ghetto.

what you listed is spending that's been already ongoing since before everyone started realizing "oh stuff we're spending way too much", in other words these are the things that helped us get into the massive debt situation we're in.

Detroit owes you? lol, a few dollars a month that maybe goes to Detroit isn't going to kill you.
yeah lets raise taxes that always helps everything!

exactly.

exactly.
... yes, and that's why there's no way in hell they'd even consider putting federal money into detroit.

at best it'd have to be done by the state of michigan, even then i don't think they have the funds for that either.

So let me get this straight

We'll bail out a car company, but NOT a city?

Did I get that right?

bailing out the comapny didnt even help. it was just a ploy for certian people to get cutbacks and take off the top of the money.

I'm pretty sure that the government made money off of bailing out some companies. GM for example.
