Author Topic: Soft shadows  (Read 104234 times)

Has no one seen brian smiths tutorial on installing the soft shadows? it's on the bottom of page 24 by the way.

Here's an idea. How about shadows that emulate real life by making the shadows blurrier as the object moves away from the surface the shadow is on as seen in the demonstration.

That would be even worse on performance

I'm pretty sure that the shadow map does not store depth information. I'm not sure about that as I managed to make shadows that layer themselves at some point (see below), but I can't really think of a good way to correctly extract that information to control blurring. The new version of soft shadows (see Gallery topic) blurs things depending on how far away from the camera they are.

Nope.

Ew, why does that look so awful

thats pretty neat how that shadow looks like the building

This plus lightning shadow

bump because port needs to post the new optimized version :(

looks autistic

port instead of softening the shadows
can you
sharpen them
like the sharpshadow mod people made then i made a topic about but the shadows are completely straight and no pixels
or soften them enough where they arent laggy but are sharper then normal shadows

Start your own server,
Go in Environment Settings,
Turn fog all the way up.

(Make sure Max shaders are on)

Now you have sharp shaders.

i dont want to have fog on though
there has to be some other way
